I’m a Christian, and even I can recognize how ridiculous it is for people to oppose gay marriage based on the grounds that “The Bible defines marriage as one man and one woman.” That’s simply not true. 

If these are barbaric and no longer acceptable practices, then I think we can say that prejudice against queer people is also barbaric and no longer acceptable.

Why doesn’t tumblr ever talk about LUSH cosmetics? All of their products are handmade and vegetarian, and most of them are vegan. The vegan products are clearly marked, so it’s not some big search for vegan customers to figure out what they can use and what they can’t. Only food grade oils are used in their products- because if you wouldn’t put it in your body, why would you put it on your body? They’re fighting to end animal testing, and they give rewards for customers who bring in old containers to be recycled.

Not to mention, their products are of an extremely high quality- again, using only food grade oils and ingredients, with your best interests at heart. And yeah, maybe it’s a bit pricey, but you get what you pay for. I can’t stress this enough- everything is extremely high quality and will make you look and feel better than before you began using it.

Trust me- if you’re still feeling skeptical, find a store. Go in. Ask the staff about the products- I’ve been to many LUSH locations, and the staff at all of them is always extremely kind and willing to answer any questions you may have and suggest products for first time visitors. If you tell them it’s your first time in the store, they’ll explain a few of their most popular products, tell you about the company and it’s values, and even use one of their scrubs and some moisturizer on your hands and arms to show you how awesome their products can make you feel.

NOT TO MENTION…

LUSH are CONSTANTLY donating to charities and causes that you have heard of and raising awareness for ones you have not. They have a vegan lotion called “charity pot”, which you can buy and be guaranteed all the proceeds for your purchase goes to a charity. (charities they donate to are often featured in their newspapers) When there was a hugely controversial proposition for an oil pipeline in BC, Canada, LUSH came out with a special line of charity pot, where all the proceeds went to causes aiming to stop the pipeline.

LUSH is constantly working towards environmentally friendly, fair trade, cruelty-free products. Ingredients that are controversial -such as cocoa, coffee or cocoa butter- are all from fair trade, sustainable sources. Most of their products are made from fresh fruits, vegetables and flowers anyway!

AND.. LUSH isn’t owned by any evil corporations. Many companies claim not to test on animals, but are owned by LARGER companies who do. (Example: the body shop is owned by L’oreal) With LUSH, you know where your money is going and who you are supporting.

On top of it all… their stuff smells fuckin’ good… and they’ll give you free samples if you are a frightened newbie.

Get their fizzy bath balls. They’re called Butterballs, I think. Which. You know. Can give anyone an infantile snort. But. They’re just… they make your skin so soft and… it’s like heaven in a bath. Just go do it.

Yeah, except most of Lush’s soaps, shampoos, and conditioners (if not all) contain Sodium Laurel Sulfate which is A) Not natural and B) Not necessary in real soaps. Sulfates dry the hell out of my hair and skin. Also, SLS was created as an industrial grade floor cleaner. Do you really want to clean your sensitive skin and hair with that? 

I really dislike how they claim to be so natural and good-for-you when they use SLS in damn near everything. There are plenty of alternatives for soaps and bath bombs that do all of the good things that Lush does without the crappy parts. I get my handmade soaps off Etsy and at the local farmer’s markets. If you can afford Lush, you can totally afford that!

P.S. You can make Angels on Bare Skin at home! It’s easy! I do it all the time! Just make it in small amounts or it’ll grow mold.

Since it’s summer and this mindset begins to pop up more, let us clarify something.

Girls being upset over being seen in bra/panties but not bikinis is not a double standard.

If she’s in a bikini, it’s what she consciously chose to wear and be seen in, in a public space, and like any outfit she was prepared to be seen in it by other people.

If you’ve caught a girl in her underwear, however, you’re probably trespassing in her bedroom, bathroom, or other personal space, where she should be in privacy, and she has every right to be upset if that privacy is violated.

It’s not about what she’s wearing or what it is covering, but rather her privacy and consent to be seen in the first place. Please respect that.

I might perform in even less than a bikini and my nipples might be on the internet, but they are where I choose for them to be, where I consent for them to be. But take away my consent and my privacy and my choice of when and where to show myself by “sneaking a peek” or looking up my skirt or barging into the dressing room… uh-uh. No. No no no no no.

When someone tried to blackmail me with threats of posting nude photos of me that were private and stolen (ugh) the part that made me angriest was that this person was taking my choices away from me. I am fine with being seen naked (obviously), but I was not fine with that not being my choice. I wanted to be naked for certain people in conditions I controlled. (Happy ending for those who are new: the pictures were not released and the fucker who tried to blackmail me went to jail for a bit and has a 10 year felony! :D)

Much like sex, I get to choose who participates in it with me, and even if I let 99.9% of the world participate, it’s my body and I can decide that .01% does not and you don’t get to be mad. It isn’t a double standard. It’s my body and no one is entitled to it just because other people get some. If I don’t want you seeing me or touching me, you don’t get to see or touch me.

My body is not a snack I brought to school. I don’t have to bring enough for the whole class.
